In using the term “children with medical complexity“, we do not intend to imply that the children in this group are all the same. Indeed, the opposite is true. All children are unique, in their personalities, development and interactions.
Nonetheless, most parents’ overall goals for their children are remarkably similar. Parents tell us that they want their children to:
a) Be happy, to give and to receive love.
b) Be as healthy as possible, with the least medical interventions possible.
c) Develop their potential for development as much as possible.
We share these overall goals and seek to minimize suffering whenever and wherever possible. Preparing your child in a developmentally appropriate way, yourself, and your home are key factors in meeting the goals described above.
